Northland has beautiful beaches, secluded bays and oh so many islands. It is also home of Tane Mahuta and spectacular remnants of the ancient kauri forest. Three quarters of the remaining kauri trees in New Zealand are in Waipoua Forest. And according to Maori legend, Cape Reinga, right up north of the North Island that Maui fished up, is where the spirits of the deceased leave the land. More on this in my next post!  🙂
